Q. Why spokes are fitted in the cycle?
The spokes fitted in a cycle increase the moment of inertia of a wheel. From the conservation of angular momentum (
= constant), we can say the greater moment of inertia of a wheel reduces the angular velocity of a wheel proving the smooth rotation of a wheel. In the absence of spokes, the wheel would have more angular velocity, and riding in such a wheel could be dangerous.
