On 29th June, India banned TikTok with 58 other apps owned by the Chinese company. Because of Ban, TikTok loses its 119 million active users. It had been just a month, and just yesterday, Trump says he will ban TikTok in the United States of America.
So What is the future of TikTok now? Is it going to be banned from all country? Let’s try to give some answers to this topic.
What is TikTok?
TikTok is a social media app where any user can make a short video with music or watch videos. This app is a fusion of two early apps — Douyin and Musical.ly. ByteDance, a Beijing based company, who first launched Douyin app is now the owner of TikTok.
How popular is TikTok?
TikTok was first launched worldwide when Douyin merged with Musical.ly in 2018. It is now wildly popular all over the world. It has more than 800 million users worldwide and has been downloaded over a billion times in the google play store and overall 2 billion-plus across all stores.
This video-sharing social app is very popular among youth. People from all over the world are showing their creativity through this app. This app has given many talented people a platform for their talents. Yet, the addiction has been a great problem for all the users.
This app is increasing its popularity more in Asian countries. China alone has 400 million daily active users.
TikTok is aiming to grow with the regional language of user. As of today, TikTok supports 39 different language to use the app.
As of March 2020, the most followed personality of TikTok is Charli D’Amelio with over 75 million followers. Wow! Just look at the number. 75 million. Now anyone can guess the app’s popularity.
Which country first banned TikTok?
India first banned TikTok on 29th June. TikTok was among the 59 other Chinese company-owned apps that India banned in their country followed by India and China tension in the unmarked border between them. The deadly clash between two governments caused the loss of 20 soldiers from India.
India did so, claiming as a threat to India national security and the country sovereignty .
Nikhil Gandhi, Head of TikTok, India said the company continues to comply with all data privacy and security requirements under Indian law. And also has said that the company has not shared any information about its users with foreign countries, not to China also.
Not only the apps but Indian people also started boycott Chinese products campaign in their country which aroused many concerns related to a foreign policy of both governments.
Which country is targeting TikTok?
TikTok has been affected by yesterday’s statement from Trump — the 45th president of the United States of America. Trump told reporters at the White House on Friday that they are looking at TikTok and maybe ban it. He is always active in the security concern of the USA.
The US government has been doing national-level research on TikTok and soon the review will be sent to Trump Administrations, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin told to reporters.
The statement of Trump has raised many questions over his executive powers. There is no idea, how Trump performs that action and by what means. But according to Trump, he has such authority and can use his executive power to fulfill his intention.
Trump administration has already set examples on such matters with the banned over the Huawei Company on many matters. The UK also followed in his path in the matter of Huawei 5G network.
Whatever the Trump says, might not happen as the official statement has yet to come.
Are any other countries against TikTok?
It is India who banned TikTok and the idea of banning TikTok is floating over the USA. The same idea is rising in Japan and some Japanese lawmakers are seeking it.
Japan is also concerned about its citizens’ data on TikTok might hand over to Beijing, as the ByteDance company that owned TikTok is located there. It has been said the Japnese lawyers seek the same concerns as the US and Indian governments.
But TikTok has at least more than a month’s time to avoid this upcoming calamity, as the statement said by the Japanese Lawyers states that the proposals to be submitted to the government as early as September.
What is TikTok future?
Well, No-one exactly can claim the future of TikTok. However, This ban information can predict the TikTok future of no good.
The country that is trying or already banned TikTok is capable enough to fulfill the market needs that might be caused by the ban of TikTok.
Even if India lift the ban of TikTok after a period of time, the users of India might lose interest over it. India has many entertaining apps that might be interested in the TikTok users or new apps might rule over India and other countries as well.
Japan is good in technology and has its own messaging app called Line which can overcome the loss of Chinese apps like We Chat. And they might search for an alternative to TikTok.
These are just a analysis, which might or might not happen.
Anyway, TikTok has its own features. From my point of view, It has many pros over its cons.
if followed a proper user, we get a chance to learn new things, to explore new ideas, know creative things, and many more. This TikTok has also provided many people a chance to execute their talents to be seen by the whole world. There are many people who got fame and money from the TikTok as well.
But there is not any certainty in anything. TikTok users are increasing day by day. The current lockdown due to global pandemic coronavirus has added more users to TikTok, as people search for more ways of entertaining themselves at home.
